  what i learned/derived from steven lett's dc talk (thanks again, ynot, for providing access to the .mp3 files!).

  brother lett - or the committee that produced the talk - really loves food metaphors.well-dressed people, especially children, produce a good witness.if you're an apostate, chances are bad conduct/secret sin/moral depravity made you that way.

  apostasy is usually founded on sin and rarely on conviction.the bible is an insufficient - or overly cumbersome - guide to godly conduct.

  Back in the 80's such things circulated as well. There has been a return to a more harsh tone since the troubles that have come about because of the web ;)
  
  When you think about it, lying is the Watchtowers best option at this stage of the game. Nothing else comes close to protecting their followers from defecting more than pumping them full of nonsensical lies. I like how the emphasis hopes to get across that leaving on principle basically never happens. You don't know how long I let that lie rule my life. After I read COC that all changed though ;)

  What features do you like about this site?

  i detect a level anxiety due to the fact that this site is shortly to close.

  i too find the familiarity of this site reassuring and i feel comfortable navigating my way around it.

  as more of a 'lurker' than a 'poster', i find active topics the best feature of this site, as it means i can log in, and in 5 minutes catch up with the news of the week.

  Personally, I liked the simplicity of this site. The lack of features I actually found as a plus. While the site layout could be a bit more updated, the minimalist style is a good thing IMO.
  
  It is simple and gets the job done. To many forums are overloaded with features that are unnecessary and add to confusion.

  Some really friendly witnesses

  i never thought i would ever say anything positive about jw's, but after attending a funeral last week, i must say they were some of the friendliest people i have seen in quite awhile, luckily for me, i already know their religion is a lying croc, but still i was treated with the utmost respect.

  just something a little positive to share, to balance out the negative.

  JWs can be very friendly to nonWitnesses - after all you are a potential Bible Study.

  Very true, but there are also people who are just downright nice people as well. I knew a few who never really wore the JW thing as a badge, but just were nice people that just so happened to be JW. Of course they were not deep in the group socially, but they still were very nice. One JW I know who was of this type actually called to see how I was doing after I DA'd from the org. It was his way of saying that he still respected and liked me.

  i looked for crisis of conscience.

  Here in Pennsylvania there is an excellent system by which a person can basically get any book from any library in the state (that participates in the program, and most do). It usually can take about a week or two for your book to arrive. I don't know what they have in Michigan but I'm sure it's similar. Give it some time. It would be huge violation of policy for a JW working at the library to hold back your request and I doubt very much that this would have taken place (not impossible, i just doubt it). Go back and check if it's been to long.

  He had other things to do with his life. After a number of posting in some intense evolution/creation debate threads he dropped off the radar. I know he was posting over at the Richard Dawkins message board for a while.

  you guys are going to get hit with spam! Never put your full email in a public forum. Put spaces between each letter and don't put the @ sign, spell it out as well as putting in a few extra things for extra security. for example: J O E ( A T ) Y A H O O d O t . c . o . m

  Do exactly what Simon is doing. Give a warning and shut it down.

  i, personally, would prefer to only have to check one board as my time is quite limited.

  I was going to build something like this a little while back and came across an excellent tool.
  
  There is a CMS (content management system) called joomla. It is software that manages your entire website. There is a plug-in called "docman" that is amazing at organizing downloads into categories, as well as allowing users to upload their own files (which are then either approved or denied by the moderator). I was getting pretty far with it but because of time restrictions could not finish.
  
  If somebody has a web server were they would like me to set this up I would be more than happy to do so. It works very well and is easy to manage.

  HELP! The Bible-God's Word or Man's - it looks like my wife is reading this

  any tips on the subject book, my wife has this book out and it appears that it may be the book she is going to be reading to help her read the bible.

  is there a copy i can download somewhere, any list of fallacies with this book or doctrinal twists??.
